Tonight, after a delicious sushi dinner, Zuke and I bundled up the kids and headed over to the new Kohl's in Orem. They were having a two-day sale, so we wanted to check out a few things and get some early Christmas shopping done. One of the things that we picked up, was a necklace for myself, which will be my present from Addison. When we got back out to the car, I happened to mention to Zuke that I have a small box that the necklace would fit perfectly in to be wrapped. He gave me a funny look, laughed, and said, "Welcome to parenthood."
I find it all a little humorous how different all holidays, especially Christmas, are as a parent. I recall my parents purchasing gifts for themselves, and also purchasing gifts that would be from us to each of them. Though, at the time, I never realized that I, too, one day, would be doing the same thing! I really don't mind it much, actually. I've always liked the element of surprise, but I can live without it. As long as the kids are surprised and happy, that's all that really matters.
Once we got home and put the kids in bed, I ran out to the store to purchase our Christmas cards, and ended up coming back with a few rolls of wrapping paper, also. It amazes me how my Christmas preparations seem to need to start earlier and earlier every single year. So guess what I'll be doing tonight as I watch my newly recorded "Heroes" episode? Yup......writing out Christmas cards.

Well, I am not a parent, but I can relate to the fact that I have to get prepared earlier every year. I am sure that will just amplify when we've got little ones. I am so excited for the holiday season!
