Midwest Trip Day 6: Wedding Day!

Saturday June 5th was wedding day! We left the kids with Whitney, and headed down to the Nauvoo temple for the sealing. The inside of the Nauvoo Temple is absolutely breathtaking, and unlike any other temple I'd ever been in. The sealing was beautiful, and the sealer said some amazing things. While waiting outside for Cameron and Amanda to come out, it started raining again and the wind really picked up. Once again, it cooled things off, which was nice, but made taking pictures really difficult.

After a few pictures, we headed back to the villa where we had leftovers from dinner the night before for lunch. We then started the 2 1/2 hour drive to Morton, IL for the reception. The reception was very nice, and the food was amazing! About a half an hour into our drive back to Nauvoo, we were driving through a tiny little town when we heard sirens. Zuke turned to me and said, "What was that noise?" It was a tornado siren. We didn't think too much of it until about ten minutes later, when we saw TWO TORNADOES outside the window, and both of them were only about 5-10 miles away! We pulled off to the side of the road, along with my parents and sister who were following behind us, and took some pictures. After finally ushering the storm chasers back into the vehicles, we continued on our drive, trying to hurry as fast as we could. We were quite deterred, though, because the rain was coming at us in massive sheets. We could barely see 5 feet in front of us, and the wind was insane. While listening to the weather station on the radio, we learned that we had missed the tornado by only about 10 or 15 minutes. We were driving straight into a massive midwest thunderstorm, but at least we were heading away from the tornadoes! It took us over 3 hours to get back to Nauvoo, and once we got to the villas, we could finally all breathe a gigantic sigh of relief. What an eventful day!
