So, I have decided that everyone needs a "Birthday Weekend". A whole weekend devoted to celebrating one's birthday. Every year.
I was lucky enough this year to not only get a "Birthday Weekend", but get to share the weekend with my mother-in-law, whose birthday is the day before mine. It seemed like a whole weekend of celebrating, and it was a blast!
Friday night, I hosted my own birthday dinner....which, by the way, I'm never doing again! We had a "How To Host a Murder" dinner, which is always gobs of fun, but SO much work! I commented to Zuke sometime that day, that it seemed a little backwards that I was doing all of the work for my own party. Despite all the work and stress, it was a very hilarious evening. Some clips from the evening: "There is something impotent in the land of Hallmarke!" "Why, Costello, what a lovely designer frock you have on!" I wish I had gotten pictures of everyone all dressed up, and also had a tape recorder to record all of the hilarities of the night!
Saturday morning, we ventured up to the Salt Lake City Farmer's Market again. It was a beautiful morning, perfect for walking around outside for a few hours. I ended up getting the headbands that I'd been wanting for a few weeks, and have subsequently worn one of them almost every since. Zuke had found the booth that sold flavored honey straws, so we got some to try. Yummy! We meandered by a jewelry booth, where I found a gorgeous necklace and matching earrings, which Zuke bought for me! We found some gorgeous sunflowers, which I bought to make some floral bouquets out of, had a delicious lunch, and left just as it was getting really hot.
That night, we went to Sakura Japanese Grill in Orem to celebrate Debra's birthday. I was admittedly a little worried about how Tyler would do with this international cuisine, especially when he decided that he wanted to eat shrimp. The waitress brought him out some training chopsticks, and Zuke showed him how to "pinch" his food. He was elated! The cook came out and cooked all our food right in front of us...making huge flames and onion volcanoes. I don't think Tyler could have been happier...dinner AND a show! The sushi was amazing, the dinner was delicious, and Tyler ate A TON! Miso soup, lots of noodles and vegetables, some chicken, and almost all of his shrimp. We topped the night off with a trip to Cold Stone, and then we all came home and crashed.
Sunday constituted more crashing, and Sunday dinner at my parent's house. Monday (my actual birthday) morning, Zuke was sweet enough to make me orange rolls for breakfast...yummy! We headed out to Art City Trolley for lunch, and then went out to run a few errands. My parents treated us to dinner at Sizzler, and then some of my friends came over to wish me happy birthday. It was such a great weekend, spent with some of the people that I care most about! What a great start to my 26th year!
