Last night was Addison's end-of-year dance recital. She had been so excited for this for weeks, and had worked really hard practicing all her dances. She looked so beautiful in her costume! I dropped her and the rest of the family off at the high school and ran to the nearest grocery store to get her a bouquet of flowers. We got all settled in the auditorium, and about ten minutes before the recital started, Miss Kimber got on stage and asked if "Addison's mom could come backstage". Just what I wanted to hear! I got out into the hall, and could hear Addison just wailing. Apparently she had been running around with the other dancers, had tripped and fallen on her face, and her bottom two teeth went into her bottom lip. There was a lot of blood! I really wanted to leave and take her to the doctor immediately, but she was insistent (in between sobs) that she wanted to stay and dance. I decided that we'd see how the first dance went, and go from there.
Addison's first dance was second on the program, so we didn't have to wait long. I walked backstage with her, and waited until they were taken out on stage. It was dark, and she seemed to be doing just fine until the lights came up and the music started. She completely broke down and ran off the stage. We calmed her down and decided that it was just best to leave and take her to the doctor.
We got to the instacare, and the receptionist was pretty sure that the doctor wouldn't actually do anything, so she just had him come out into the waiting room and take a peek. The doctor was so nice, and Addison kept commenting on how nice he was even after we left. He said that her lip looked okay, and that it would actually heal much better on it's own than if he put stitches in it. Addison was perfectly happy with that decision, and even happier with the strawberry ice cream she got for being brave!
I was sad we missed the recital, and that Addison didn't get to dance, but I'm more happy that she's okay. I didn't get any pictures of her dressed up, or of the wound, but Zuke did manage to snap this gem while I was backstage...
