
Herbert Woodrow Wilson, loving husband, father, and grandfather returned to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, April 17, 2011. He was born March 31, 1918 in Eureka, Utah to Robert Henry and Zelphia Nisonger Wilson. He graduated from Payson High School and later served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Herb married his sweetheart, Rowena Bigelow on August 22, 1941 in San Diego, California, and the marriage was solemnized on August 31, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of three sons. She preceded him in death on August 17, 1991. He later married Mae Johnson Rose on June 25, 1993 and they have enjoyed many happy years together.
He was employed at Smith Auto for 39 years. He drove the “Tonka Wrecker” and served as an auto mechanic and service manager. He loved gardening and yard work and enjoyed the benefits of his hard work. His family was his highest priority and he was an especially fun grandpa. He enjoyed his association with the Good Sams.
A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Herb served in numerous callings, including 3rd Ward Bishopric Counselor, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, and as a faithful home teacher. He was also a devoted Assistant Scout Master for 15 years.
Herb is survived by his wife, Mae; his sons, Herbert L. (Sheryl), Springville; Robert B. (Shirley), Spanish Fork; and David A. (Connie), Benjamin; 17 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren with another one on the way; and a brother, Alma Wilson, Payson. He also leaves behind Mae’s sons, Paul (Linda), Larry (Maxine), and Rex. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rowena Bigelow; sisters, Rhea and Elna; and a brother, Gordon.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 12:00 Noon at the Spanish Fork West Stake Center Chapel, 360 North 650 West, Spanish Fork, Utah. Family and friends may call at the church prior to services from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
