(I apologize in advance for the length of this post...I was honestly too wiped out at the end of every day to do a daily post, so you get it all at once!)
Monday
We picked Kaiden up on Monday afternoon, so we were contemplating what we could do with the boys that evening for Family Home Evening. After tossing a couple of ideas around, we decided to take the boys over to Color Me Mine to paint ceramics. I had been there once a few years ago, and it's just such a fun place. Both of the boys chose a ceramic porsche to paint, Zuke picked a mug, and I painted a vase. I think both boys enjoyed the fact that there weren't really any rules to what they had to do, and were both very proud of the paint jobs they did. (So were Zuke and I!) We left our ceramics there to be glazed and fired, and then picked up some M&M ice cream for a treat on the way home.
Tuesday
Tuesday morning we left mid-morning to head up to Scofield for a picnic with Zuke's mom. Tyler was thrilled to be going to the mountains (he thought we were going to climb them), and I think Kaiden was just relieved to be out of the car! We drove up a little canyon on the west side of the reservoir to a little day-camp spot. We set up our brand-new canopy over the picnic table (thanks Mom and Dad!), and started a camp fire. We had hot dogs, roasted marshmallows, and all the other traditional picnic food. Kaiden wasn't too sure about the hot dogs, and Tyler would have eaten as many as we would have let him. They both enjoyed playing in the dirt, but were definitely ready for naps by the time we got in the car. After dinner that night, we went down to the ballpark to watch Whitney's softball game. She got a big kick out of the boys standing at the fence yelling, "Go Whitney!" (As a side note....her team won 17 to 0. The other team was horrible.)
Wednesday
Wednesday morning, we decided to just bum around the house since we were still wiped out after being in the sun most of the previous day. After the boys' naps, we got all ready to go swimming up at Annie's complex pool in Lehi. Tyler has been swimming like crazy this summer, so was just busting at the seams waiting to go. We went later in the afternoon, so as to avoid the hottest part of the day. We put life jackets and goggles on both of the boys, and jumped on in! Kaiden enjoyed the pool....as long as Zuke or I was holding on to him. He warmed up to it a bit, but had the most fun sitting on the steps pretending the water noodle was an elephant trunk. Tyler's favorite thing was pretending to be Superman and jumping into the pool. I'm honestly quite surprised (and a little worried) about how fearless he is when it comes to the water. Addison even got in the pool for a few minutes, and while she didn't freak out, she still wasn't too sure whether she enjoyed it much. After a couple hours at the pool, we went up to Annie and Wes' condo for pizza and ice cream sandwiches.
Thursday
Thursday was deemed as our day at home. Kaiden and Tyler played around outside all morning until lunchtime and naptime. While they were napping, Whitney & I went over to a ceramics shop in Provo and picked out some ceramics for the boys. I figured that since they'd had so much fun at Color Me Mine, that this would be a cheaper way to entertain them in the same manner. So we set up our own paint studio in the kitchen, and the boys loved painting lizards, frogs, dinosaurs and rockets. After painting, it was time to go camping in the backyard with Zuke. The boys were beyond excited about this! They took their dinner outside to eat, and then played around with the toys for a while. Once it started getting dark, they got into the tent with the portable dvd player and watched "Cars". I took them out some popcorn and treats, and Tyler promptly told me to go back into the house. Apparently camping is "Man Stuff" and not meant for mommies. Surprisingly, both boys fell asleep quickly and slept well all night.
Friday
On Friday we ventured up to Hill Air Force Base to go to the Aerospace Museum. This was the day that I think Zuke enjoyed more than the boys. As we walked through the museum, he kept telling the boys all about each plane and what it could do, and all they could really say was, "Yeah....that's a big plane." We saw helicopters and a fire engine for Kaiden, and a yellow plane and a "shark plane" for Tyler, and an SR-71 for Zuke. The boys (including Zuke) each picked out a plane from the gift shop that they have been completely attached to ever since. On the way home, we picked up our ceramics from Color Me Mine. We were so excited with the finished products! The boys got pizza for dinner again (2 times in one week is extremely rare!), and I was kind enough (hee hee) to get them M&M ice cream again from Cold Stone for dessert. (I also got some for Zuke and I, so it wasn't such a hardship. LOL)
Saturday
On Saturday we had our main event....a trip to Hogle Zoo. We were smarter about it this time than we were last time in quite a few ways. We left Addison with Grandma & Grandpa, and got to the zoo right when it opened. There was a breeze from the canyon that helped a lot with the heat, and I opted to rent a motorized scooter as opposed to a wheelchair. Kaiden & Tyler were much more enthusiastic about the zoo this year than they were last year. Hogle Zoo has put in a new carousel, which was a lot of fun to ride. The favorites, of course, were the elephants and the albino & baby alligators. The boys also loved the lizards and snakes, and all the other creepy crawly things. We went to the zoo's Discovery Zone, where the boys got to get out to run around and play for a bit. We took a ride on the train, and they found it fun to wave and say "hi" to everything that we passed by. We made a stop for lunch, and then picked them up some puzzles and stuffed frogs from the gift shop. And we did it all in under 4 hours
It's now very late on Sunday night. Both Tyler and Kaiden are with their other parents, Addison is sound asleep in bed, & Zuke and I are exhausted beyond belief. We had such an awesome week with our family! Despite the lack of sleep and all of the running around that we had to do, I know that we have made lasting memories that none of us will forget. And that makes it all worth it!
