Family Update - June 2008

It always seems to us that life just rolls along, rather uneventfully, until we stop and take a look back to realize that there have actually been some things that have grabbed our attention. That's how the past few weeks, and I guess the past couple months have been. So, I think it's time for a general update of things and persons.

We'll start at the bottom....

Addison turned 3 months old a couple weeks ago. My, how time flies! Her personality is very evident now, and she couldn't be more adorable if she tried. She smiles all the time now, and we can occasionally get her to giggle. She is still growing like a weed (92nd percentile for height at her 2-month check-up), so we basically had to go get her a whole new wardrobe a couple weeks ago. She is holding her head up very well on her own, and is learning how to sit up on her own. We bought her a Bumbo seat, at the recommendation of some friends, and that is helping. I don't think she can decide from day to day whether she really likes it or not. We also bought her a play mat that has fishies and a mirror that hang over her, and she is absolutely in love with that! We've had a few nights here and there where she's slept through the night, but they haven't been consistent. She'll usually sleep until right when the sun comes up, take a bottle, and then go back to bed for 3-4 more hours. We're not complaining! This last Wednesday, she finally rolled over on her own! She got over to her stomach, surprisingly, and then couldn't figure out how to get back to her back. It was so cute...I wish I'd had the camera with me!

We had a bit of a rough patch with Kaiden a few weeks ago. He had been throwing up and having diarrhea for a week or so, so we took him to the doctor. The doctor suspected rotavirus, but wouldn't know for sure without testing. Luckily, the tests came back negative for rotavirus, and they said he probably just had some other type of viral gastroenteritis. The diarrhea and lack of appetite continued for a little over 3 weeks, resulting in him losing about 5 pounds. And if you've ever met Kaiden...you know he doesn't really have 5 pounds to lose! Luckily, last weekend he had a pretty voracious appetite, the diarrhea had stopped, and we were getting back on track with his potty training. Other than all of that, his vocabulary is increasing by leaps and bounds every time we see him! It's amazing all of the new words he's been picking up, and how well his sentence structure is coming along. He's coming out of his shell a lot more, and becoming much more social and comfortable around people he's not too familiar with. He's taken more of an interest in Addison lately, and is always concerned with making sure she's doing ok.

Tyler has been pretty much the same old Tyler he always is. It's so wonderful that the weather has warmed up so that he can go outside and play everyday. (It really helps his mood, as well as my sanity!) He's started swimming, mostly at his dad's house, and can now swim the length of the pool at their complex with just a life jacket on. He's also started taking a bit of an interest in T-ball, so we bought him all the equipment to start doing that. He's been in a bit of a "talking back" and "talking over people" phase, but we're all hoping that a phase is all it is. A couple days ago, he was at grandma's house, and somehow got a huge splinter wedged between his big toe and the nail. It wasn't budging, and was starting to get infected, so we took him to the doctor yesterday to have it removed. It took 3 adults, plus the doctor, to keep him still while she cut off part of the nail and pulled the splinter out in pieces. He was trying so hard to be brave, and I know that it must have hurt so badly. He was crying so hard, which is never nice thing for a mother to have to sit through. But, the splinter got out, and he is recovering like a champ.

Zuke and I are both just trying not to go insane. He still has not found a job, after two months of looking, that pays what he was making. We are a little baffled, considering we send out a lot of resumes each day. We just have to keep having faith that the right job will come when the time is right (hopefully sooner than later!). With not much income, and gas prices the way they are, we're having to come up with some creative ways to stay entertained. We've de-junked a lot of stuff, and taken a few trips to the DI, as well as worked on some home improvement things. We helped our friends, Bryan and Heidi, move to American Fork last week, and are very excited to have them closer to us! I finally got my new foot brace adjusted, and have been getting used to wearing that. We get to have both of our boys for a full week together this coming week, so we're looking forward to doing some fun, out-of-the-ordinary things with them.
