The Hair Debacle

When Addison came out of her first day of primary this year with a piece of gum in her mouth, I didn't think much of it.  It wasn't in her mouth 45 minutes later when we had lunch, so I figured she had just thrown it away.  Boy, was I wrong!  The next morning, as I was hurrying to comb her hair before preschool, I found a tiny bit of gum in her hair.  It wasn't too much, so I hurried and combed through it and didn't worry too much about it.  Now, keep in mind that Addison has A TON of hair, so a quick comb-through doesn't always get all of the knots out.  So, two days later, we're getting ready for preschool again, and I'm trying to pull her hair up into a ponytail when I come across a huge wad of gum right at the base of her skull.  Aaaggghhh!  We tried everything we could come up with to get that gum out of her hair, but it was so stuck in there, that Addison finally asked me if we could just go cut her hair.  So, off to the salon we went.  I showed her the book of haircuts, and let her pick out how she wanted her hair.  I was probably a lot more nervous than she was because her hair has been long for years, and I was also really nervous about whether or not she would like it.  Luckily, the stylist did an amazing job, and even though it was a bit of a shock, we both loved the result!

She looked so much more grown up....not my little girl anymore!  So, after a few weeks, we were all used to her short hair and really liking it, and then the next problem happened.  I was once again combing her hair for preschool, when I noticed something was up with her bangs.  I looked more closely, and found that all of her bangs were different, jagged lengths.  When I asked Addison about what happened, she tried to blame it on Tyler.  But after a bit more probing, she admitted to cutting her own bangs because, "...they were in my eyes while I was coloring and couldn't see!"  Ugh.  So, for a couple weeks, I just pinned her bangs back every day.

We weren't too crazy with the look, but weren't sure what else to do.  Then last Saturday, we had taken Kaiden in for a haircut, and decided to ask the stylist what could be done about her bangs.  This is what she came up with...

Her bangs are a bit fluffier in this picture than they are now, but you get the idea.  It's crazy to see how different she looks now than she did just a month and a half ago, just because of her haircut!  We had to have some serious discussions with her about the proper use of gum and scissors, so hopefully she understands and we won't have to go through this huge hair debacle ever again!

Well, it is never fun having to deal with stuff like that, but she looks super cute, so bonus!
